Sketches 02 Balance and No Dig

A few questions about the larger scope.

Where does the balance lie? Quantity of this vs that? Wild vs ordered?

The garden must always bow to the house, and to the neighborhood. How much is enough or too much? Will it look too different from the neighbors?

Budget of course dictates all. In terms of maintenance into the future and how long a plant purchase will last. How many years will it live? Will the seeds I plant germinate? How much cheaper seeds are than nursery plants?

Existing.

Showing only, the oval lawn, two shade trees, and a modified walkway added.

Predominately wildflowers in a natural "matrix" planting pattern.

Discrete beds are essentially larger patches of the same plant in order to make a better show during its flower cycle. The slight order also hints that it's not "wild".

The first sketch was mostly trees and shrubs with very few flowers. The existing hydrangea, lantana, and buddleia aren't shown.

Alternate beds pattern.

Smaller polinator flower beds. This is the ultimate beginning point. More because of the mulching and time constraints of a no-till bed preparation rather than digging.

No Dig
The time constraints of no-dig is 3 to 6 months. Beds prepared early this summer will be ready for seed in the fall.
