Plant combinations and succession planting

 Plant combinations and succession planting

This diagram is an example of plant combinations for successive blooms in one bed.

  • Paperwhites
  • Oxye daisy
  • Fall anemone
These plants provide 3 bloom periods. Paperwhite in early spring. Oxide Daisy in late spring. Japanese anenome in the fall.

Also the dying foliage of the paperwhites are hidden by the growing foliage of the ox eye daisies and Japanese enemies.

The oxeye daisies require cutting back after bloom at a time when the fall anemone foliage is growing. Cut the ox eyes to 6 in or to the height of the existing anenome, whichever is greater.

Foliage of both paper whites and anemones go dormant. Ox eyes are evergreen and provide ground cover during the winter.
